It's not cannon when the game obviously contradicts it (like the name "Ashfear"), but aside from that it should be considered cannon. Soulblighter can still be an ancient evil from what we know of his history; he was good a thousand years ago, and shortly thereafter turned to the Dark of his own accord. Myrdred, on the other hand, was an Avatara right up until Balor bound him late in the Wolf Age.
And where do you get this absolute conviction that some characters were combined into others? The Deceiver is the Deceiver, Bahl'al is The Watcher, The Voiceless One is sorta-kinda Shiver, and we have no reason to think Soulblighter was combined with the Faceless Man other than some people believing that cutting your lips and nose off counts as having no face. Bonesplitter and The Faceless Man were never mentioned in-game, so Bonesplitter could have been changed to The Lurker without upsetting anything set in stone; and The Faceless Man is still a perfectly valid name for the sixth, unknown Fallen Lord.
