Actually I've never agreed with the 'spiders are from another dimension' theory. Chimera, canon material, shows them obviously outside of the tain and living in forests. There's also that unused flavor from TFL talking about mothers warning their children. Plus the fact that spiders have any flavors whatseoever points to the fact that they are common or at least known outside of the Tain.
