I think they left because a human Monk/Priest guy questioned their religion in tfl text.
And Balor destroyed Muirthemne and let Soulblighter destroy the rest of the desert is in the legends of lore section somewhere, and mb in the tfl manual ( tho im not sure since i don't have it handy)
