: The Delusions section is for the crazy theories. The
: Relics section is for factual articles. Writing
: factual articles on all of the topics you would put in
: this "Myth college" would fit perfectly in
: Relics. If you have any crazy wild theories, they
: should go in Delusions.
It's not good to have those things in separate places, for it's helpful to have theories of varying degree next to the singular truth, the theories clearly labeled as how "theoretical" they are.
: Also, I think that presenting one single theory as THE
: TRUTH is a very bad idea. Write up the facts, quoting
: sources. Then from those facts, write up the possible
: theoretical conclusions which could be drawn from them
: - ALL of the conclusions. Let the reader decide which
: theory they subscribe to.
Which is exactly my point in my own version of the project. But, I thought you were looking for the άber-Theory :-). That is something I would personally love to have as an addition to my own timeline.
: GURPS is cannon, except obvious screwups like the
: Deceiver. Bungie said it was cannon. If we can't take
: Bungie's word on what is cannon in their universe,
: then we're just making it up as we go along.
Bungie is the one that screwed up. They didn't read a book entirely, and therefore they let is pass unknowing of the problems in it. This is a thousand times more likely than they let certain things pass 'just because they intended something by it.' Lol, the guys at bungie were not that insightful :-), nor did they expect we commoners to understand such an intent
or they're are sadistic evil-teasers.
In such a case, we take it upon ourselves to make an appropriate judgement and ignore things grossly contradictory, realizing that both should be represented, as you had stated, but not either told as truth or cannon.
: And again, teaching newbies "This is the truth"
: when it's really just one theory is a very bad idea.
: In a physics class, they don't present all the current
: laws and then choose one Grand Unified Hypothesis as
: the truth to teach their students. They say
: "these are the facts. these are theories that
: work. these are some theories that try to tie them all
: together - those folks believe this, these folks
: believe that, etc". And the students believe
: whatever they want to believe. This is good education.
No, I definitely disagree with this part of ani's idea here. I agree and believe that things should be all given their truthful credit. I believe ani was merely trying to educate the newbies away from their impetuous and eternal stupidity, which is a lofty goal for us all to venture :-).
: GURPS can be transcribed. That's the next thing on my
: to-do list. And Myth 3 obviously draws a lot of its
: info from GURPS - Moagim Reborn, for example, who was
: never heard of before GURPS.
More likely, Myth III gets its information from the original story-writers who, as you said once, 'had a hand in making GURPS.' They may use GURPS as a reference now and then, as we all, but shouldn't take the whole thing as cannon.
: Why is that? You present the same information in (mostly)
: the same way, but within the established framework of
: this site. It works perfectly. Somebody chime in and
: support me!
Sorry, Forrest, it's not enough. If you want to know the absolute why, we can talk in a more private circumstance. I'm aiming for the absolute top; die Spitze, in German. Ani also wants more. Therefore, we're looking to work together on this project. You're invited. Sili is invited. We would definitely appriciate your assistance, but we understand if you don't care to help us.
: And also, I think it is rather rude of you to be
: discussing a potential competitor to my site on my
: forums. But if it's being discussed at all, I suppose
: this is the best place for it.
Well, Forrest, we wanted yours and Sili's support in this project. Well, at least I always wanted it. We definitely respect you, and never let it be believed that we don't, dear sir :-).
