GURPS Myth talks about this in its conversion tables. They also mention how it's ludicrous that archers have such a short range, so their conversion they give them a normal range and explain how factors other than how far the arrows can shoot come into play, like accuracy and ammo. A Myth unit's maximum attack range is how far it would be wise to attack from. A Warlock's fireball could fly forever, but the chances of its hitting its target (and not something else) from so far away would be almost none. Likewise, archers COULD fire a lot farther, but they'd almost always miss.
I think it would be interesting to make a traditional European-style archer with insanely long range but s00ky accuracy, and very cheap, so you buy a whole bunch of them and send clouds of arrows off across the map, a couple of which hit the enemy.
