Probably because he is BOTH. Usually you have a King in the West based out of Madrigal (The Province), and an Emperor in the East based out of Muirthemne (Cath Bruig Empire). They are supposed to be two different people, so one can check the other, but Alric had assumed the throne of both positions. So he is both King AND Emperor. So the game calling him 'King' would not be incorrect, as such.
