: Alexander was Macedonian (which is a region of Greece),
: as was his army. I am not thinking of Sarissa...
: Alexander's Greek/Macedonian hoplites had 18-foot

: Ancient Western Civ course.

An 18 foot spear! Sounds like a pike, useful in tight formation so the enemy simply cannot get close.

But if you're _not_ in tight formation but in a Myth-like rabble, wouldn't a spear like that be a liability? Zulu spears were only 4 foot or so - ideal for close combat as a versatile stabbing weapon. That's what I was thinking of in my initial comment about the new spearman ;)
