Lets see. The war against Balor had raged for 50 years before the start of TFL. Myrgard and Muirthemne both fell in the same year near the start of the war, and we know there were fir'Bolg at Myrgard due to the flavour text.
Just because there were fir'Bolg at Myrgard doesn't mean that the truce with the Province had been forged at this time, but it does seem likely given the enmity that existed between the races prior to this truce. Also the time for making such alliances is at the start of a war, not at halfway through when the Province was invaded and the fir'Bolg busy defending their forests.
As I recall, Mauriac was regent of the province while Alric was young, implying that Alric's father (the king) had died prematurely - probably in battle. Putting these together, I'd suggest Caliban was Alric's dad.
