: I agree, though I found others were fraught with suspense
: too. And I tend to disagree on Across the Gjol - the
: level was on one of the multiplayer maps (most of
: which you never saw) and your role was purely
: defensive. The levels where you were venturing into
: unknown territory (like the Road North) tended to be
: much better imho.
I dunno about that. Across the gjol had this sense of overbearing hopelessness as you saw your forces get worn down piece… by… piece. You were fighting a war of attrition you couldn't win. It also had a much cooler ambiance than its twin, Shadow of the Mountain.
: Hmm yes. But I'd also add Salvation and Ibis Crown to
: that. I played M2 before TFL, so Salvation was the
: first serious level (Willow Creek was a joke eh?) I
: came across & it really had my heart pounding...
I'll agree with you wholeheartedly on the Ibis Crown choice. Those spooky lighting effects and the ghostly laughter creeped me out. I dunno about Salvation though. It had a cool ambiance, but it seemed sorta… plain.
: Throne of the Lich King abounds with suspense. Its the
: first map I've played in a long time that actually
: made me flinch when one of the traps was sprung. I was
: on the train at the time & got some strange looks
: from fellow commuters ;)
That level roXors.
