: Mythworld where someone was paralyzed, killed, or
: otherwise harmed by the use of their true name. The
: closest parallel was when the Watcher was shot by the
: arrows with tips made by his bones, and that most
: likely 'stoned' him because there was enough power in
: his own bones to harm him. After all, he was the
: second or third most powerful sorceror in history.
It's "in living memory", not "in history".
And the narrator mentions that using the arrow tips is "rather like knowing his true name, only better". So you could expect knowing his true name to be 'rather like' shooting him with those arrows, only worse.
