That actually _was_ Soulblighter's piece. Don't forget that it was in the heart of enemy territory, and that only an archmage would know how to get into or out of the thing, let alone do it harm. Plus Sb had a bad experience holding the Tain in the past, so he'd probably prefer to be elsewhere in case it blew up again.
