My tentative guess right now is that given we have really no way of knowing how thorough the Precursor genocide was, the Endless might have been another creation of theirs? I guess the question is whether the timeline would really make sense for them to devise a species that would be immune to the Halo Array (or, leaning on the suggestion that #NotAllPrecursors were the baddies, perhaps it was a way of protecting them from the Flood, and that in turn granted them immunity from the Halo effect? Would have to be some sort of exotic biology, then.)
