I'm curious too.

Master Chief is definitely an easy way into the franchise, and if you've tuned out over the years he's the easiest hook to get back in.

On the other hand, they've pretty thoroughly explored his origins and are doing a lot with his Covenant War era incarnation, so I'm not sure what else there is to cover.
