I would say it's not that bad in the magic department because it's fictional biology and it's not breaking any rules of physics or chemistry, it just doesn't fit with the life forms we're familiar with. Although, the lekgolo group mind is kind of hand-waved, but then the Flood get similar treatment and no one seems to mind.
