- hard to break old habits for controls
+Feels like they are really pushing for unit diversity. Infantry are more important to capture and hold nodes.
- Why don't the UNSC sniper look like snipers? They look like Nimrod from the X-men
+ Resource management is more important
- Resource management feels more complicated
+ Haven't been steamrolled by 50 tanks. Complimentary units seem more complimentary
- Controls don't feel snappy and smooth like Halo Wars 1. Camera seems sluggish.
- My controller is an original Xbone one, therefore it sucks. Bumpers are TERRIBLE and you NEED them for this game sooooo much.
- hard to break old unit habits. Took me forever to realize that my scout hog could not pick up resources.
- wtf is a JackRabbit? A better unit for this class would be Mongoose. It's upgrade path should be a passenger with rockets. DONE.
- Why don't all my units have secondary abilities? They should. It changes the tide of battle
- I CAN'T QUE UP MY UNITS TO MOVE BY HOLDING THE X BUTTON AND IT'S KILLING ME. In Halo Wars 1, I could hold 'X' on a pile of resources and then repeat that on resources somewhere else on the map and my hog would then QUE UP to go from spot to spot, so I wouldn't have to watch it. I could do this with any unit. This was great for scouting. Can't do it here so far. No bueno.
Aside from that, it has strengths and weaknesses. I would rather spend time messing with units and their powers by playing an AI. Just having it MP only is not good.
The art style looks mostly good. Only a little of the weird 343 forerunner aesthetic that I hate so far. Hoping there is a 3rd playable race, flood or forerunner.
Don't like the leader power upgrade thing so far. Have not gotten the hang of it. I liked the old version way better, because I knew who had what. This model seems like it is supposed to encourage variety but ultimately feels clunky to me.
The ability to create custom battle groups is nice, and I know people really wanted that in the first game.
Aside from that I would agree with the sentiment that it feels more complicated in many areas, when it should not be since this is supposed to be a simpler stripped down RTS. Yet, some other things feel more simple like upgrading units.
I'm not sure what I want out of Halo Wars 2.... but I will say that it needs to feel more like Halo Wars 1 than it does now. New maps and units are a good thing, but if it wasn't broke, please don't fix it. Halo Wars 1 suffered from a lack of support and unit balancing towards the end of the game, aside from that it was surprisingly balanced in all other areas.
