Since NPD sucks these days with not giving numbers and digital sales are a black box, this is I think the best number we've gotten period for the game.

To compare, WW sales of Halo 3 were between 5 million and 8 million in the roughly two to five month period after release. While I doubt 5 will have the legs of 3 (which went on to sell in excess of 14 million copies by the time Halo 4 rolled around) it's still a lot better than the doom-and-gloom the media reported on. So that's nice.
