Only if the story directly reflects details in the journal. This is a lore tidbit that opens a door. Story can expand off this and 'make sense', as it were, because people can point back to it. Not really the same as making direct reference to material you need to see/read in order to understand.

Also, if what you said were true, it wouldn't just be hard to everyone who didn't buy the Reach+journal - these are what, 5 pages alone in existence? It would be hard on everyone who didn't get an 'unspoiled' journal.

Thankfully the pages are available online now, so everyone's on the same footing anyway :)
