I was originally thinking about doing a much broader analysis, but I was worried both about whether I'd ever ship the article, and about how palatable it would be. LOD behavior was on the table, but I wasn't sure how I'd make it interesting. I'm contemplating doing a Reach article where LOD behavior would potentially be on the table once again and where Halo 3's approach could be briefly discussed, but who knows.

As for that oddity with draw distance and display settings: I haven't been able to reproduce the claim. The draw distance is always where your article says it should be, regardless of my settings (including 480p, which red_breast said should make the draw distance larger).

"The Graphics of Halo 3" felt like it was missing something, so I decided to do things the Halo 1 chapter title way and throw in a bizarre slogan.

Due to its early-gen-ish overshooting and undershooting of visual expectations, I've sometimes said that Halo 3 is less of a seventh-gen game than a sixth-and-eighth-gen game. That's the first thing that came to mind.

Apparently it's throwing people off, as MacGyver10 made the HBO front page post presenting it as the name of my blog. xD
