: I like this guy's videos generally. I don't agree with everything in here but
: it's refreshing to see a more outsider opinion than someone as deeply
: ingrained in the series as most of us.
: It's not 343 bashing, more of a then and now in comparison to the rest of the
: industry.
The outsider perspective is interesting, because it still misses the important wider context the games landscape. Even if we controlled for 343 continuing to make Halo games much closer to Bungie's style, focusing less on the lore, etc... you're still ending up with a Microsoft console that stumbled heavily out of the gate, and comparing it to Bungie's new universe that's (crucially) cross-platform. The original Halo games hit at a time when exclusives and killer apps were what console businesses were built on, and that really isn't the case now; hence why PS4's generally better cross platform performance is such a strong selling point over "it has X games that Y doesn't have."
And it's another video where the solution is "more innovation!" If Halo needs to change to stay relevant but 343's changes aren't sufficient or the "right" ones, what are? Microsoft should really be using that magic innovation fairy dust more often; come to think of it, Apple really should too. What's with these companies not blowing our minds every few years like clockwork?
