The conclusion doesn't really follow from the premise. Being cool with leaving something alone does not imply being cool with addressing it. Frequently it's quite the opposite; it's been a contentious issue with 343i's reception of the Halo narrative torch in many ways, for instance.

Fictional justification is an explicit disagreement with the mindset. If someone holds that mindset, the fictional justification actively runs against the elegance and potentially the plausibility of the fictional universe.

No one is stopping you from ignoring it, but no one is stopping you from thinking that Halo 5 is a story about Mister Chef attempting to cook and eat soffish either. Sure, you can always just ignore what the storytelling is saying, but then how much do you care about their story?

(Of course, there's hardly just one storyteller, which in terms of this discussion looks good or bad depending on how you squint. On the plus side, it might make things more palatable to ignore; on the less plus side, it seems likely to produce more stuff that you want to ignore in the first place.)
