"This is a Slipspace drive. We've been building them for centuries. We haven't gotten all the hows and whys figured out, but we've got plenty of direct empirical evidence telling us what happens when things go south, just from testing and operating tens of thousands of them."
Look, I get what the appeal is. Jorge is a cool character. Even the people who hate Reach love Jorge. I just don't think that the present-day fiction needs him bad enough to undo his sacrifice via a contrived "You didn't see the body" scenario.
: Things just disappear. But when it comes down to it a Slipspace drive makes a
: breach into another reality (I think, its been a while) so its entirely
: possible the chunk of the Supercarrier was just teleported into Slipspace
: then ejected out somewhere in empty space. Like the buildings that went
: with Regret in Halo 2. Although that was a guided jump, the premise would
: be the same.
No, the premise is not the same. One is a guided jump meant to take Regret's carrier from Earth to Delta Halo. The hole to slipspace is designed to allow a ship to pass through safely. The other is a rift in time and space created by a slipspace drive that was stripped down until it fit into a Pelican. Functionality isn't necessary. Safe transition isn't necessary. All that IID needed to do was hurt the Supercarrier.
: As for radiation and such... he was also inside the would be intact Corvette
: at the time.
I'm talking about radiation from the unshielded, unmounted slipspace drive Jorge was standing right next to.
: (this is honestly a bit weird posting, I've been a lurker here for years
: now....)
Actually, it's nice seeing all the old faces turn up. You haven't posted for years, and I can't remember when I last saw KP's name.
