This. I've been hanging out at DBO a lot recently, but I rarely make my way over here to HBO anymore. And it's not even that I'm not enthusiastic about Halo 5. I think it looks great, and I thought Halo 4 was enjoyable, if lacking. I do enjoy some of the things 343i is doing with Halo, and I don't think they're taking it in a bad direction, I like most of their art direction (The Chief has never looked better, in my opinion).
My biggest thing is just time, anymore. In the glory days of HBO, I was finishing high school and entering college. I had an abundance of time, and the gaming industry was different. It seemed like there was less competition for my time than there is now.
And, in all honesty, Destiny has been my biggest gaming focus. It has become my new Halo; it's the game I always return to after playing the newest flavor of the month game, and it probably will remain that way for some time to come. I will be getting Halo 5 for sure. But it will probably be a flavor of the month game for me. I'll play through the campaign two or three times, I'll give Warzone a go (it looks fun!), but in the end, I bet Destiny will remain my go-to after I'm finished with Halo 5.
So, while I'm excited for Halo 5, Halo in general just isn't as engaging for me as it used to be. A lot of that is because, as good as Halo was, coming here was all about the people, and a lot of those people have moved on, either entirely or to DBO or other places. DBO is my new HBO, and I imagine it's the same for a lot of folks.
