: I've read most of this thread and you're convinced that American screen
: printing is really expensive.
: You're wrong.
No I'm not. And I never stated it was. It can be fairly cheap. I stated that it cost more to produce made-to-order screen prints (full canvas at that) in the USA then it does to send a design off to China to be mass produced.
: My mom worked in the Promo Item industry for almost 15-years now. She owns
: her own business after working for another company until a few years ago.
: We had a giant printer in our basement and I've given out Community
: Customs t-shirts for years.
: For once, I actually do know what I am talking about. That's why I originally
: asked about the colors and material, I wanted to double check with her
: personal printer and their rates. Basically, they said anyone who pays
: $30+ for a t-shirt, even double-sided and full-sized art, is insane(or at
: a concert, as mentioned above.)
I would agree to that, if these designs were mass produced. But they are not. There's also the cost of producing a online store front where the company not only takes the orders, and places the orders (w/i the company), but they also go through the headache of customer support, invoicing, shipping my product to each and every customer for me.They also have to deal with customers that don't pay and credit companies. What do I do? I create a design and upload it. That's pretty much it.
: For a polyester t-shirt, with 5+ colors, and double-sided art on both sides?
: MAYBE $25.
And Full Canvas to boot? And they take care of all of the headaches I've listed above? Awesome! Where do I sign up?!
: But that's only because you're selling them individually instead of in sets
: of 100. If you got 100 of them and sold them yourself, you'd be able to
: get them for about $10-12 a shirt, then sell them for upwards of $15-20.
So far, I've yet to ask Nuvango about bulk wholesale orders. I know they provide that service. But without the funds, I've never looked into their pricing on that. I would love to do that. But even at $10-$12 a shirt, we're talking about $1000-$1200 I don't have. Otherwise, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've already spoken to local businesses here, in town. Only one actually does these kinds of Screen-Printing. And it's on par with your mother's rates.
: As much as Korny and I have issues, he is 100% right on this.
: No one is going to pay $55 for a t-shirt. Even with a 30% coupon, it's still
: waaay overpriced.
He's not. And apparently it's not too expensive either. ;)
