Nailed it.

This was almost the exact same idea I had.

I don't have time to do it justice, but I also envisioned a way to paint the 4 mandibles on there, so it appeared the gun was coming out the mouth. Instead of white eyes, use a gloss black. Bam, Elite.

My second thought was a paint scheme like Jorge from Reach, simply because he too carried a big as muthafukin gun.
