Ok, so I get your point. Problem is, this isn't practical in the real world. Russia is the land of piracy, porn, malware and general craziness when it comes to all things computer-related. You're not going to get them to pay $60 for it (see how few PC gamers pay that price for games here.)

Free to play games are the inevitable result of people thinking that $X is too much to pay for a game. So you hope to hook a few people who will finance the freeloaders via a system that accepts the piracy.

I don't see Microsoft changing its plans on consoles, because at least for now the classic system seems to be holding intact. But on the PC platform you have to play by PC rules.
