So I got the notice that my drivers license was up for renewal last month. I checked the notice sent to me and it states that they no longer accept my hospital issued birth certificate. Ok, no big deal, so there is $36 dollars spent for an official state issued birth certificate.
I receive my brand new birth certificate in the mail and I run down to the local DMV to renew my drivers licence on Feb 27th. It turns out that I have to take their silly eye exam because I'm over 50 year old.....and I didn't pass the eye test. I told them something was wrong with the optics or something else is wrong the hardware because it looked like I was looking at the letter bar in the mashine through Vaseline or some kind of opaque film.
So the same day I failed the DMV eye test, I made an appointment at out local Vision Center. My appointment was today and my eyes tested a perfect 20/20 and my eyes are in perfect health. $140 dollars was not entirely wasted because this was the first time in my life I have had a professional eye exam.
So the grand total to have my drivers license renewed is.......
New birth certificate: $36
Professional eye exam: $140
License renewal fee: $68
Total.........................$244 dollars.
This is the most expensive drivers license renewal I have ever had to pay.
The stupid thing that annoyed me at the DVM was the customer renewing her license (she looked to be over 80 years old) before me had to ask the clerk 8 times to speak up, yeah I actually counted! Then the DMV clerk turned the computer screen to this old lady to have her confirm the info on the screen was correct, and the old lady raised and lowered her glasses on her face several times attempting to see the screen. She even told the clerk that she was having a hard time reading the computer screen. And this old lady wasn't even asked to take the DMV eye test?? The DMV renewed the drivers license for an old lady that was hard of hearing and had difficulty seeing, even with eye glasses!
It's disconcerting to know that an old lady that has severe hearing loss and poor eyesight is operating a car with the blessing of the Oregon DMV in my area. Yikes.
