I walked over to it and it disappeared. I went back a couple of other times and I can't actually pick it up, unless it's under a different control than the normal pickup. I think I'm close enough to if that was possible but it didn't happen. :(

Maybe it's only on higher difficulties? I was on Normal. I know only a handful of skulls are even visible below Legendary.
