: Are fans really better than paid writers?

I could've probably phrased that better -- I wasn't referring to all fanfics and all paid authors, just the cream of the crop of fan writers vs. 343's/Reed's current writing (since the majority of fan fiction, as I understand, is basically unreadable). As in, it's kind of sad that the officially produced content we're expected to pay for doesn't live up to the standard of certain fan works (few as those may be) in terms of quality, attention to detail, or background research done.
