Oh no, you're not alone. I don't think anyone was asking for a Master Chief Collection. A lot of people didn't even want H2A (though a lot more people did). They could have done H2A, had all of the maps redone with better graphics, and provided all of the stuff they're providing, and that would have been fine. What's it tell you about how truly horrible H4 did that they went to this sort of extreme to try and win customers back or make money?
: But all I see is small teams on competitive maps with nothing outside the
: box. Spider has a point about map choice, too...
Don't sweat it. Their strategy will fail if that's all they have planned. It's already failing when you consider that they're trying to Beta nearly a year out. Either way, it's just H2A. We'll see what they bring and show for the Beta.
: : The ONLY reason I believe the remade maps are considered
:
: When Halo 4 first came out, we were literally given only four maps to
: choose from in each playlist.
: Other than specific Playlists like Big Team Battle or Snipers or Infection,
: those 4 maps were Adrift, Abandon, Solace and Haven. Never saw ANY of the
: other maps on any other playlist the first several months. I remember I
: went to the Customs menu one time--I forgot exactly my purpose-but when I
: saw Erosion? I swear to all holy Christ, I seriously thought it was DLC.
: That map was shipped on-disc and had not been publicly featured for
: almost a year. The same can be said for Impact, but they eventually put
: that in. Long story short, hardcore multiplayer has always been the core
: focus for Halo games.
Admittedly, all of the maps suck. They've been altered in ways that make them more playable, though. Well, the smaller ones have been.
: Remember the whole 'multiplayer/meal' controversy?
: I think it's time we give the vegetables a chance.
H2 has a ridiculous amount of popular maps. The argument that somehow Blood Gulch needed to be remade again is sort of a huge joke. Could have easily been replaced by Terminal, Relic, or Containment. A proper Ascension remake is nice, but it has a lot of whack design choices for its redone model. Zanzibar again is cool, I guess. Kind of sad considering you basically get it in H2, more or less again in H3, and then another redone version. I get the "most popular" mentality bit, but yes, it's sort of pathetic when you have multiple iterations of the same maps being released in this bundle. Oh well though. It'll sell. This $60 collection was going to sell no matter what, and odds are no sales would be impacted if they swapped out Blood Gulch or Zanzibar for something else in the H2A versions. It's H2A. H2A = Money. H2 = Money. H1-4 for $60 = Guaranteed money. The thing prints money at 343 Industries. If there was anywhere to "take a risk" and make some of H2's other maps shiny for H2A, it was H2A. They want to play it safe for H5 after H4's failure. H2 will succeed with just about anything they do if it's just shiny-ing up some maps.
