: Everything, all the other game breaking bugs with Halo 2 had been pretty much
: patched by the time the 1.5 update came around. That along with the
: dedicated servers pretty much mitigates almost all of the issues to the
: point where it's really become and non-issue. It's not worth the time they
: would need and the fact that it would take away something people expect
: which is relatively harmless.

Bungie couldn't patch some things in Halo 2 due to

a) Microsoft cutting off sustain funding for Halo 2, killing any title update they had planned after 1.5

b) Limitations on what they could patch, as they wished to maintain LAN compatibility between 1.0 <-> 1.5 (and their total patch size was also super limited)

Namely, changing map data breaks LAN compatibility, as older versions think you're trying to load a different map, since the map checksum/hash/whatever changes. The same thing happened with Reach 1.1; since 343 made a client-side change with the zero bloom functionality, 1.0 and 1.1 can't play with each other on LAN.

Now, you have all the data, code, and no limit on the size of patches nor what you can patch since 343 has never maintained LAN compatibility (heck, LAN is currently in the "might make it in" state, according to Frankie). Why would you not fix bugs that the developer wanted to fix but were not able to do due to technical and publisher reasons that don't exist anymore?
