It is indeed possible, as this picture (kindly borrowed from badcyborg.net) proves:

It is also possible to get Johnson and Stacker with you at the same time - which I was fortunate enough to get on my Cavern Megabattle setup. Johnson had a Sniper Rifle, which he evidently did not know to use, as he constistently put bullets through the backs of his friends' brains, much to my amusement - once he killed seven Marines all on his own, totally by accident!
