If they're running out to 8 issues they can't be doing that badly. In times past you had to wait nearly a year to find out if your comic was a success; these days I imagine they get much more instantaneous feedback.

That said, I don't think there's any good data on what it sells. The comic charts for retailers, for instance, say Escalation sold 8800 copies to retailers in December 2013--but that of course doesn't count direct sales, which I imagine has to be pretty great for comics these days, especially for Dark Horse who heavily pushes it.
