There are many instances of people replacing "O"s with images of all kinds of things. The bag DOES look like it says "I love Kony", simply because that practice has been around for a long time. It is especially easy if you have no idea who Kate Spade is (like me) and therefore would not "get" it.

I was set to agree with you until I looked at the bag. It totally looks like it says "I [heart] Kony".

I agree with your assertion that sometimes people can be stupid, but I don't think it's the people complaining who are stupid here.
