On rare occasion yes, one piece did contradict another. But it was usually consistant. And yes, the majority of Marathon's story is constructed from bits and pieces of info from all three games, loosely tied together into a beautifull weave. However, we can't just ignore what the game says, unless it's stated as heresay or just a theory of some character. And given that it is stated that Balor *is* the Leveler, and Soulblighter *is not* the Leveler - instead of just "Balors seems to be the Leveler and Soulblighter not" - we should take that at face value.
