: hmm, I was thinking the Ghols and the Trow have an
: alliance, so the Ghols in the Friends Like These level
: that just seem to watch our attempts to battle the
: Trow have a right to be there... but what happens when
: we win their alliance, the ghols are our enemies, do
: the trow just kick them? What I'm getting at really
: even though the above doesnt make sense, could these
: ghols, perhaps protected by the Trow NOT be part of
: the Soulblighter eeevil alliance and be neutral?
Well, you'll notice these Ghôls keep trying to sabotage your contest with the Trow. I think they're definitely on the Dark side, but they're too cowardly and disorganized to mount an all-out attack on you in defiance of the Trow, or to attack the Trow once they've agreed to join you. So they just skulk around and try to make sure you lose the contest.
I don't think the Ghôl-Trow relationship is a formal alliance so much as an informal recognition that neither race has anything to gain from fighting the other. The Ghôls are too backwards and slavish to offend the Trow the way other younger races did (either by confronting the Trow about their religion or by creating competing civilizations). And the Trow, with stone bodies and iron buildings, simply don't have anything the Ghôls would want to eat; nor are the Trow friends with the hated Dwarves. So by and large the two races simply ignore each other...perhaps the Ghôls are allowed access to Trow lands, in return for bringing information about events abroad.
They obviously don't mind beating on each other when they're allied with opposing forces--as in Redemption--but I think they went back to a neutral relationship as soon as Soulblighter bought the farm. The cosmic battle between Light and Dark just doesn't matter that much to either race.
