In Response To: Re: Damas and Ravannah? (Lord Raven)

To add to this, from earlier threads...

Soulblighter could blow up the world (he thought) by shattering the Cloudspine. The Callieach removed at least a small chunk of the world and killed millions of Trow when they created the Great Devoid. Why didn't Balor, or any of the earlier Levellers, do either of these? It's hard to believe that the Leveller doesn't have the power to match any of Damas' feats...

Again, within a fairly short time Balor turned the Cath Bruig--something like a third of the continent--into desert. Why didn't he do this to the rest of the continent as his armies moved over it? Could he not make the effort twice? It'd sure be worthwhile...destruction like that is something the Light'll need a lot of time to recover from.

It's always easier to destroy than to create. If the Leveller did as much damage as he could to the world, I strongly doubt the Light could repair it all in between his incarnations. But, as you say, the world is still around.

The conclusion seems unavoidable to me that the Leveller acts with restraint. Soulblighter didn't--which is one reason he was fated to die and, the narrator believes, will be punished by whatever deities or forces oversee the cycle.

Re: Myrkridia: this is a perfect example of restraint on the Leveller's part. The Myrkridia are fairly dumb predators--even with M3 Packmages and stuff. They have no great plans of global destruction, they just run around and eat people. That means they're self-limiting. The more people they eat, the less people are left over, the less the Krids have to eat, the less Krids there are. Plus, of course, Krids are lousy at attacking walled cities like Muirthemne. And they don't exactly leave "dust and ashes" in their wake. Perhaps they could have devoured humanity into extinction in the end, but it'd take a damn long time. In the meantime, they're just a strong population control. Here, Moagim was acting with a much lighter touch than if he, say, went to Tharsis and blew it up. :-)
