In Response To: Re: Damas and Ravannah? (Seraph)

: Water disrupts a shade's mind...thus, whatever it is that
: perserves their intelligence. (As opposed to a Thrall,
: which has the brains of a dull-witted rock), and if
: that happens, you've basically got a hovering Thrall
: with a sword.

: Not even that, maybe. The hovering is presumably magical.

: Seraph

Hmm. Alternative theory. Myth never quite goes into what the source of magical energy is, other than that it takes the form of the Dreams of Wyrd. However, since the Eye of Wyrd is the sun, this could suggest that, in pantheist fasion, Wyrd manifests himself through the world of Myth itself. If so, it would seem likely that magical energy can be drawn from ley lines coursing through the earth itself, and that magi are tapping into Wyrd's power (explaining why Myth mages recover power a lot faster than those of other settings?). Following this theory, the most powerful magics would only be possible at confluences of ley lines, such as at World Knots and at Tharsis.

Anyway, /if/ this theory is correct, water would disprupt the flow of energy from the earth to the Shade, and, presumably, they require a continuous flow of such energy to maintain their unlives, being a much more complex form of undead than Thrall or Soulless.
