Lol!

: Forrest, this is the most illogical theory to date. Aside
: from the fact that Balor's head was cut off and The
: Head is a severed head.. there is absolutely NO
: evidence supporting this, and it takes an extreme
: amount of explanation to refute the solid evidence
: presented below: a) Balor has his head on.

When the Head was thrown into the Great Devoid (which seems to act like a black hole), it traveled back in time (which is also a characteristic of a black hole: time travel).

: b) There is no time travel that we know of in myth.

THIS is what made me laugh, no offense. Ok…know what a Dispersal Dream does? Somehow, through magic, the power of the mage's mind is directed through his hands and makes another person explode.
But you do that in your spare time, you say?
Well, then the closest person to the explosion (if close enough) explodes into little, bitty pieces in the same manner.
A trick of light and shadow, you proclaim?
Then the next closest person explodes, then another, then another, then another, then another, forever and ever, as long as there are enough people relatively close together. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never known anything in our Real reality to be like this. Yet black holes, somethings relatively fantastic, do exist and do produce time travel.

When the Callieach suicided themselves, they created a bottomless bit. This is the calling card of a black hole or a black-hole-like anomoly. No, we don't know this for sure, but doesn't it seem like the best explanation? I am merely trying to say that if the most powerful mages in history created it when DYING (often releasing all energy) in such a spectacular way, it's likely that there are some very special properties about the hole they left behind.

No, time travel is not a common thing in the Myth universe, same as our own, but it's certainly with possibility, no? Conscidering the most UNUSUAL of occurences in Myth, including the Total Codex, time travel is very much a possibility. Think of the Total Codex. It tells all of the past, all of the present, all of the future, and all of the Christmases yet to come! This little tome kicks the butts of ALL THREE ghosts! The Total Codex is a sign that some sort of time travel, whether natural or magically induced, probably ocurred.

: c) Why would the head do things which would lead to his
: own defeat?

Your other two points were entirely based on the possibility that time travel does not exist. I, as many others, find it most certainly possible that it does exist, given the evidence of time travel elsewhere in the Myth world. This question here is the only one which has any relevance, seeing as the other two are mere conjecture of half an opinion which has nothing supporting it.

So, why would the Head lead to its own defeat? Let's do the Chronology briefly (in the proponent theory).
Balor comes. He's defeated by his head being cut off. His head is thrown into the Great Devoid. This head ends up fallling back through time and lands somewhere in a desert, or something. He could have been there for two years or two thousand years; it doesn't matter. Then, for whatever reason, however it happened, The Nine got their hands on this Head. The Head told them that he is an enemy of Balor, blah, blah, blah.
Now, if that head is the head of Balor, it is therefore the head of Connacht. It's most likely that the Leveler spirit was not in that head any longer and did not posess him anymore. This means that Connacht might still be trying to eliminate the cycle, making Balor (obviously an enemy of Connacht to have possessed him and continued the cycle, which he hated to so much) lose and the Light win.
Remember how Alric sounded in "Out of the Barrier"? He said he was betrayed (implicatively by The Head). Alric was interrogated by Balor when held captive. I severely doubt that Balor would have kept his helm on the whole time. He probably would have taken it off, revealing that his face was the same as The Head.
Then it clicked for Alric: "OH MY FRICKING GOD, THE HEAD IS BALOR!" he exclaimed in his mind. No wonder he felt betrayed…
I doubt the original intention of the plot called for Alric to be Mazzarin Reborn, so this explains Alric's behavior of why he KNEW suddenly, how it clicked, that The Head was Balor, though Alric would not have realized how The Head was more like Connacht trying to save them and end the cycle.

: I'm sure there is more, but you get the picture, there is
: no way this was Bungie's intention.

This was absolutely Bungie's original intention. Did you see what Balor looked like when he was on top of that wall of Rhi'anon Fortress in the cutscene of River of Blood? If you don't remember, go here:
http://www.geocities.com/archerous/balor.jpg
See that? It's obviously Balor; he has the red mantle of the Leveler blowing the wind and has Balor's helm too, with gold horns and all. His head appears to be sporting semi-long hair as well, if not just black hair.
Remember what The Head looks like? If you don't, go here:

Notice the EXTREME resemblance to Balor The Head has? Hundreds of years in the desert can mangle a severed head, I'm sure.

Hehe. :-) So, from this, we can VERY CERTAINLY determine that The Head was ORIGINALLY intended to be Balor's severed head which traveled back in time, at least part of Connacht's mind inside The Head still, trying to end the cycle by having the Light defeat The Leveler.
