Warlock -> Covenant Connection

In the last Asylum report we reported that the hero warlock had sacrificed his soul for the position at the head of the University of Covenant and a high court position. This lead us to believe that Myrdred served the ruler of Covenant as an Avatar, or alternatively, was the ruler of Covenant at one time, and the Warlocks were the wisemen which he tutored in magic.

However upon closer inspection, I noticed we had interpreted the flavor wrong. Actually the Hero Warlock sacrificed his court position and chair at the university of Covenant in his quest for ultimate truth.

Though this does somewhat discredit the Myrdred-Covenant theory, it does bring something else up. It seems that Warlocks are the most educated people in the Myth world (or at least the west) and seek ultimate truth. However my question is... In the myth world, is magical ability a power you are born with or something you learn? In my opinion, both, and they are drasically different.

Lets observe magic users who doubtfully used books to gain knowledge of Magic. Balor, he gained his power through the Leveller, and may have been skilled in magic. Shiver, an arrogant prissy idiot probably was naturaly skilled at magic and had her power augmented by Balor.

In the case of Soulblighter, he was a "mere" master of martial-arts and a luitenant but somehow gained a fair amount of magic (not much compared to other fallen lords). Same goes for Warlocks, who cant possibly all be born with skill as they seem to be mere scholars. I conclude that Soulblighter and Warlocks learnt thier magic from books.

Its easy to tell the difference between someone born or given magical abilities and one who learned it through books. Both balor and shiver use unatural, light based attacks such as Balors big lightnin thin and Shiver's shiny ball things. The magic users who use books however use more natural attacks such as fire (SB's fire-burst-wall, warlocks firwall & fireballs).

As for Avatars (this includes Myrdred):

From American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language:

avatar: n. 1. a. One regarded as the incarnation or embodiment of some known model or category. b. An entity regarded as an extreme or notably complete manifestation of its kind; exemplar; archetype: an avatar of stupidy. 2.Hindu Mythology*. The descent to earth of a deity in human or animal form. Used as genric term for the incarnation of Vishnu.**

Myth Avatars are probalby born with power, and augment it with learning. From what I have seen, they are most profficient in the dream world (dispersal dream, wither dream).

*Likely to have influenced mythworld avatars in light of the discovery that "Ravana" was the demon (some say giant) king in the Ramayanad (not correct spelling) :)

*Brahman: The Creator Vishnu: The Preserver Shiva: The Destroyer, Forrest dint you mention something about the 2 myth gods + the leveler (a myth god to prehaps?) being The Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer?
