One of the original inhabitants of Ireland were a group of people called the Firbolg.....Legend says that they came from Greece, where they had been long enslaved, and whence they escaped in the captured ships of their masters....sjiping along in time...The Firbolgs were engaged in a battle with another tribe called the De Danann...The battle raged for four days. Then the Firbolgs, finding themselves beaten, but pretending not to know this, proposed that the doubtful struggle be ended by haulting the great hosts and pitting against each other a body of 300 men from each side. So bravely had the losing ones fought, and so sorely exhausted the De Danann, that the latter, to end the struggle, were glad to leave to the Firbolgs that quarter of the Island wherein they fought, the province called Connaught.

Other notable names of history include Balor of the evil eye, who was slain by his own grandson the great De Dannon hero Lugh with a sling, but after Balor had slain King Nuada (king of the De Danann).

This actually has nothing to do with Myth, but I felt it was some rather nice information and thought I'de share it:)

BTW: I took the history from "The Story of The Irish Race". an interesting read for an Irishman, or a history lover.
