Soulblighter's Crows

How is it that Soulblighter was able to return to his normal form when the Deciever killed one of his crows? I mean, that crow was a part of him isn't it? Like a hand or maybe his intestines?! Maybe Im taking it too literal, but then how come he can return to his normal form and not break into his crows with simply one missing? That crow was obviously important so I truly don't understand how he can just return to normal. Im missing something aren't I :)
