Of course he's not!!!
He is trying to rebuilt the land and give it's former glory.
Don't forget that,it's used to be great nations in this land.Heroes was born here and heroes died to free this land.
So it's natural the fact that he want to establish a new empire which will look like the old great kingdoms.
I agree with Silicon,that people not only have great respect on King Alric but they also sees him as the savior of the land.And of cousre people need a leader and King Alric is the perfect/choosen one.
I admit that my self too pay respect to that man!
Nobles also sufferd from the great war and they know the value of King Alric.He's justice and above all he likes mortal people.That's why he didn't join Balor.
Just imagine the destiny of the land if Alric was gone in the battlefield....
