: "Oghres are something like zebras." I like
: that. I'll have to use that sentence when I get a
: chance. I notice that in the final big battle scene,
: the Oghres all have the same body type. Perhaps they
: had different castes for different purposes, like
: bees, and this is the warrior caste? I'm inclined to
: think they're different species, though. The fact that
: the singular "Man" is contrasted with the
: plural "His cousins, the Oghres" suggests to
: me that the Oghres are all the earlier races. Oh, and
: could the Mauls be a race of Oghres, who fled from the
: Trow to the east? They're about the right size, and a
: lot of the Fear tags for Mauls call them
: "ogres" instead. I know they don't look very
: much alike in the finished game and comic, but perhaps
: they were originally intended to be related.

Hrm, interesting. Perhaps, though Mauls are rather ogre-ish, so that could have simply been their working name before they decide to call them Mauls.

: Does it actually say a million years somewhere? In the
: comic it just says an "aeon."

An aeon is a million years. Isn't it?

(whips out dictionary)

whoops. well, that goes and spoils my timeline (drags when.shtml to trash ;] ). eon, n: an extremely long, indefinite period of time.

: If you're basing your estimate of the age of the younger
: races on the period of slavery of the Oghres, I should
: point out that they were enslaved for twelve
: centuries, not twelve millennia; only 1200 years.

Huh. Good point I didn't notice that. Well this messes things up then, because the way Acerus Malum Magnus relates it, as soon as the younger races were created, the Oghres called the Trow a race of consorts, so the Trow enslaved them. Then, 1,200 years later, the Oghres rebelled, and after a 30 year war... Connacht's around and he entombs the Trow. So that means that the Leveller cycles, having been going for 5,000 years before Connacht's appearance, predated the appearance of the younger races by 3,800 years. So either the Oghres didn't call the Trow consorts until 3,800 years after their creator, or the Trow waited 3,800 years before responding to the Oghres' insult, or the Trow's "moment of weakness" lasted 3,800 years - or some combination of the three.

So, the younger races are created, the Leveller cycles start. 1,276 year later the Oghres call the Trow a race of consorts. 1,267 years later, the Trow enslave the Oghres. 1,200 years later, the Oghres rebell, the Trow crush them and abandon iron. Their "moment of weakness" begins. 1,267 years later, Connacht entombs them.

Not quite right, is it? We've got some problems here.

: This
: means that the human Leveler cycle had already begun
: thousands of years before the Trow enslaved the
: Oghres. I think the solution to the "aeon of
: peace" may simply be that the younger races were
: created at a distance from the Trow (maybe because the
: gods knew about the Trow tendency to stomp on anyone
: who even looked like they were thinking about
: invading) and the Leveler immediately stopped messing
: with the Trow and went and messed with the younger
: races instead. But the Trow didn't know about the
: younger races until they came into contact millennia
: later; all they knew was that they had suddenly
: entered an era of peace.

: If we do have to wait a million years for the Leveler to
: come again, Myth 3 through Myth 10,000 are going to be
: damn boring.

Hey, they could just deal with mundane world-destroying sorcerors and further revelations of history. What do you think Myth II and Chimera are about?

: Smeagol suggests he's the Faceless One back when he was
: good. I like this idea. Only one unidentified Fallen
: Lord to go!

Interesting. Though I figured that those "turned from the Light" were, be definition, not ancient - Soulblighter was once the good guy Damas, but he's considered an "ancient evil". Myrdred was from the Wolf Age, so he's less than 500 years old, and Ravanna, if a Myrmidon, is around 300 years old. We don't know anything about The Voiceless One and how old s/he may be.
