Gonen's Bridge Mahir

In Gonen's Bridge, as most of you probably already know, there are two Mahir: One near the beginning if you go straight foward when you come down the ramp, and one on the rocks near the bridge. They both run away when you get near. The only reason i can see why they would be here is as observers, but why not just use invisible observers? if anyone can think of a reason, please reply.
