Theories of the Myrkridia

I don't really have time to form a single coherent document, but here are some of the flavor texts that I created for the Myrkridia when I had a little too much free time on my hands...

ìIt is said that the Myrkridia evolved from the long-dead half-reptile creatures which long ago became the ancestors of all of the mammalian forms of today. Perhaps that is why the sight of them evokes our most primal of ancestral fears.î

-A note on this one : The Myrkridia, with their sparse hair and reptillian features, and especially their dentation, really do look like the therapsids, long extinct links between Reptilia and Mammalia. If anyone is familiar with some basic natural history, you may know what I'm talking about.

ìAncient, simple, elegant, and deadly, the Myrkridian body form is far more powerful than that of its mammalian descendants. Myrkridia are asexual, and reproductive individuals grow to a huge size matched only by their command of dark sorcery.î
ìFear of the Myrkridia, undisputed top predators for eons, runs deep in the collective souls of every intelligent race upon this world. They are terrifyingly old... older than the Dwarves, older than the Trow, older than the long-dead Callieach.î
ìAnd then, in the timeless light of the moon, they sang; they sang wordless prehuman songs, ancient, terrible, and sad. I listened, coated in my own blood, and wept for the long-ago loss of something I could not comprehend.î

And here's some utter crap that I came up with just so I'd have an excuse to create a supermyrkridia (an "Archmyrkridia," named [poshumously and by humans] Treader of the Dawn) unit that could blow the bejesus out of anything else out there :

ìThe entire Myrkridian species consists of the progeny of a single gargantuan breeder creature, which once communed with its children through a form of telepathy. This being was both the soul and the central brain of its race.î
ìHe could not be saved. With barely a scratch on his body, the hardened warrior had been driven to utter insanity by a single sight. How strange it seemed to us then, before we lost over half of our battalion to that great, hulking thing of darkness.î
ìIt is said that among the dark artifacts within the Tain was the weathered skull of a Myrkridia from the First Days, the progenitor of every Myrkridia in existence, the sole survivor of an ancient cataclysm that nearly left the savage race extinct.î
ìIn that prehuman time when It strode across the soil of this world, the great Parent of the Myrkridia was the most powerful sorceror in history. Even Balor, the Leveller, could not have dreamed of power such as was wielded by the elder being. î
