AN plugin now available

The AN plugin for Saturday is available at C2HL--Hotline, IP 208.53.57.248--in Files/Guest Uploads/Beta Plugin Uploads. It's zipped. I've never made a plugin before, only local folders; I hope everything works out.

I only had time to modify levels 4 through 10. They've been renamed with an "AN: " prefix, so when you get the plugin shift-click New Game and start playing "AN: Into the Breach" so that you'll be able to host it in multiplayer.

Now, here's a brief description of the units. Just basic stuff, so you know who not to run in front of when they're firing, etc.

Blackhand--a prototype I put together just for fun. A human-sized miniTRO with Kung Fu action. Just as tough as an ordinary Trow; he moves slower and doesn't hit as hard, but his blows are much much faster. His special is a 360-degree mana-powered spinkick that does slightly more than Trow-kick damage to everyone within a few feet--it's great for wading into a mob of attackers and damaging a whole bunch of them at once.

Duckyjo--also a prototype. Ducky's a dwarf. A very small dwarf. So small, in fact, that the majority of melee attacks miss him and hit someone nearby. A melee-attacking enemy may actually swing at Ducky, miss, and hit himself. Ducky's primary attack is with his knife--he can take on 2-3 myrks at once, since most of their attacks will hit each other. Ducky doesn't throw cocktails, but he can pick up and throw objects like a Ghol, only farther and more accurately. His special is a short-range spray of Dwarf heads that blow up on all sides; he has 4 of these to start with (he uses satchel charges for ammo), so he's kinda like a reusable Wight. If he dies, another spray goes off, so stay away from him when his health is low.

Forrest--a reconditioned Warlock, with a dark gray-edged robe. His primary attack is a staff stab, not too fast but unstoppable. He has three special powers. First, Omniscience: as long as he's alive, the entire map and all enemies are visible. If he dies, the map stays visible but distant enemies can no longer be seen. Second, a projectile-deflecting permanent force field. This makes him basically immune to all ranged units except lightning-throwers and users of Dispersal Dreams; it also means that all ranged Light units should stay far away from him, so that his field doesn't deflect or detonate their shots. Third, a Berserking special. When fired at a unit, it strips the health of the target and all nearby units to almost nothing, then heals them. If they're undead, it kills them; if they're alive, the shock sends them berserk. Be warned that this can also berserk Light units, and even our own AN units, by mistake. And berserking can't be cured.

Milk Man--also a Warlock, but larger and with a robe edging of white. Has a very explosive ranged regular attack, and a very very explosive ranged special attack. *Never* get in his way. He's accompanied by three-uh--Ho's, with roughly the same stats as Zerk heroes and an ammo-dependent special that tosses a few shrunken heads like Myrk Giants do. The Ho's drop any remaining heads when they die, so keep away from them when their health is low.

Plague Bearer--a Shadow Wolf. Larger, faster and stronger than ordinary wolves, with a wicked paralytic bite. Has a mana-powered long-ranged lightning special. When he howls, he immediately becomes invisible (the same sort of invisibility as pathfinders have) until he attacks someone or is hit by a unit or projectile.

SiliconDream--a souped-up Ghol. My unit's probably the worst in terms of sheer combat power--he doesn't have an incredible melee attack, he doesn't have any ranged attack (he can't throw like other Ghols), and he's not particularly tough. But he's the fastest of the units and quite agile to boot. Like Forrest, he has three special powers. First, Newbie Education--the first (and only the first) time he taunts, he and any nearby allies receive 99 kills' worth of experience. (Nearby in this case means within the orbit of a small light that constantly circles the unit.) Second, phantom generation--when his mana is full, he can create a phantom of himself that will attack the nearest enemy. This phantom is immaterial and invincible; though it cannot do much damage to enemies, it serves to distract them while the real players attack from behind. It's also good for baiting Wights into self-destructing. When Silicon's mana refills, the phantom disappears. Third, Logical Obfuscation--Silicon can place permanent blue flames on the ground that are impassable to all units except Silicon himself and Plague Bearer. Projectiles can pass through them, but creatures can't. These are useful for walling off pursuers, trapping prey, and defending chokepoints. If Silicon dies, a flame arises where he falls.

William Wallace--like Blackhand, a combat uber-unit. He's not as damage-resistant as Blackhand, but he's faster, attacks ferociously, and can shoot fireballs out of his butt. (This is an ability many Scots possess). The fireballs aren't too accurate, so get out of the way when you see him bend over.

Them's the units. Other than the special guys like Alric, Journeymen and Garrick, they're all that are on our side in the AN levels. Download the plugin and try it out!

I apologize in advance if I've made some horrible mistake that renders the whole plugin useless. Please give me a shout as soon as possible if you find such a mistake.

Thanks,

--SiliconDream
