Alric: original name...not

Alric the guy we all know and love has a name that is not new.
Alric is (or was before he was killed) the Warder of Siuan Sanche, the old Amyrlin Seat in VERY famous The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Alric is NOT a major character, in fact, his name is only mentioned once that I noticed.
Now...did the Bungie peoples see the name and think, "Oooo there's a neat name, and I'll bet no one will notice if we use it." Or were they quite innocent?
We may never know.
