Soulblighter's "changing"

Another thing that boggles my mind is how soulblighter changed so drastically from myth 1 to myth 2. He became more buff, his voice changed to sound more human, and his face went from human looking (except for the no mouth part) to some kind of mutant barely resembling a human. I think, yes, he was the leveler. In the intro to myth 2, soulblighter screams for no reason at all when the great devoid is about to erupt. If he could have escaped, why didnt he just do it? instead, he paused. He turned around, a new, completely different expression on his face. Anger. When he came back from his long disappearance, he had changed drastically. This implies either two things-a)Balor transferred his conciousness into him or b)Balor owed soulblighter something that he wanted very much, and came back after Alric, angered that he could not get it. It couldnt have been worldly power, as soulblighter could have easily attained that alone (due to his ability to exist without balor and create his own undead armies, meaning he didnt have to sit around and the great devoid waiting for them to show, he could have gotten a head start on myth 2's army). Instead, he chose to stay there. He wouldnt have endangered himself for the mere sake of loyalty, as soulblighter has no sense of it whatsoever. So...what did he want? Or, was he waiting there for the Leveler to transfer its conciousness into him? We may never know...
