I finally got GURPS, and reading through it, an interesting theory has coagulated between my neural passages.
Things that tipped me off are subtle but important. Firstly, we're supposed to be in a Dark Age right now. That's the big conundrum. The thing that pointed me towards the answer is thus: the Comet fortells the rise of savior or destroyer. Balor, thought to be the Leveller, is thought to have arisen almost exactly a thousand years after the last Leveller arose. However, the Comet didn't show up until decades later, when Balor died. It's not supposed to fortell death, but rising. And since this is a Dark Age, it fortells the rise of destroyer.
And who was rising just as the Comet showed up?
