In Response To: Re: The Leveller, Mjarin, Myth III e.t.c. (Denorius)

: Why is it so hard to accept that Mjarin was the Leveler?

: He resseructed Moagim to serve as his fallen Lord and his
: goal was to destroy everything - as a Levelers goal
: should be. He secretly commanded and helped his fallen
: Lord Moagim and at the same time sabotaged the Cath
: Bruig war effort.

: In case Moagim failed Mjarin planned to become Emperor of
: the Cath Bruig using them to destroy everything.

: If u fail in the last mission of Myth 3 it is stated that
: Emperor Mjarin conquered the Trow lands, the Twelve
: Duns, Gower and the Dwarves.

: After he conquered (wiped out) all life on the whole
: continent, he could have started a civil war in the
: Cath Bruig Empire and helped each side so that the
: Cath Bruige would have slaughtered themselves.

: Goal accomplished. So in the short term Mjarin doesnt
: behave like a Leveler but in the long turn - yes he
: does.

It's not a question of Mjarin being unconvincing as a character; no question that he acts just like a Leveller might, sure. It's a question of the canonicity of the sources which posit that he exists at all.

Consider for analogy if I were to claim that the universe isn't really expanding, instead everything is shrinking, and that I know this for a fact because I read it on the internet somewhere. Aside from any arguments about whether that claim is true, "I read it on the internet somewhere" is not a good justification to claim that it's true. "My astrophysics text book says so" might be a better justification.

Of course in reality the ultimate arbiter of truth is comparing a claim to observable evidence, but we can't do that with fiction, so the authority of the sources making a claim are the only deciding factor on the truth of that claim; and MJ are not an authoritative source, because they are not the original authors.

The original authors, who are the highest authority over the truth of the Myth universe, paint a picture where Mjarin doesn't feature at all, and the Leveller who Connacht defeated was Moagim, who ended the age which he ushered in as Tireces - leaving no room for any other Leveller in there. "And so Tireces returned as Moagim to end the Age of Reason - and Connacht, the great hero of the Wind Age, returned as Balor to lay waste to the greatest empire the world had ever known."
